Deviate Chain Guide

Overview

The Deviate Chain Guide

The Deviate Chain Guide is the result of over a year's R&D and testing in Scotland and the Alps by both our engineering team and ambassadors.

Eliminating dropped chains is at the core of any chain guide, but Deviate’s design also tackles key challenges including durability, reliability, drag and even noise.

Key Features

Key Features

Adjustability : Works with chain ring sizes from 30T to 36T

Durability : Grease port is fitted to protect the bearings (as seen on Deviate’s Highlander and Claymore frames)

Reliability : Designed with long rides & racing in mind. Reduce maintenance with built in grease ports, twin-lip wiper seals and pre-mounted bash guard

Efficiency : Jockey-wheel system improves guide efficiency by reducing the risk of the chain siezing

Noise-reduction : Soft rubber included to reduce noise

Drag-reduction : The grease ports not only provide longevity but also reduce drag on the ups

Protection : Comes complete with pre-mounted and adjustable bash guard

Compatibility : ISCG 05 lower only chain guide. Works with a range of suspension platforms (not just high pivot) and oval chain rings

Part Replacement : No need to replace the entire guide, the bash guard and jockey wheel can be easily replaced

Installation : Install without removing your crank

Specification

Chainline : 52mm (55mm with 3mm spacers and longer screws)

Material : Injection moulded nylon & CNC-machined Aluminum backplate

Capacity : 30-36T

Weight : 109g

Mount : ISCG 05 lower only

Whilst not tested outside of the Deviate bike range, it should be fully compatible with most other analogue mountain bike frames.

Awesome Chainguide/Bashguard, 10/10 would recommend

I‘d 10/10 recommend this to everyone with a Deviate (or any high pivot) frame.
[So much so that it would‘ve been nice to see this included with the frame and not be an extra. ;-) ]

It gives the chain the neccessary bit more wrap around to stop it from skipping teeth under high loads or coming off in rough trails.
It also calms down the pedals even more, since the length of returning chain free to swing below the chainstay is shortened and the angle of it changed, thus reducing the force with which the chain is able to pull on your pedals.

[For context on the skipping problem: It might not be an issue for you, because part of it stems from the combination of me running a (wider than 12x) 10 speed chain on a (i.m.o. slightly undertoleranced) praxisworks narrow-wide chainring and me putting enough watts through the drivetrain to make any non-shimano chain skip on the casette as well.]

So if you‘re having the same problem, this is your solution and even if not, it still is a really nice and solid chainguide and bashguard combo.

Sidenote: I really commend the team for the import taxes and fees to the EU being covered in the price as that effectively reduces the cost by a not incosiderable amount. (Compared to other UK manufacturers)

I haven't received the order from deviate and noticed that after 2 weeks it is still in GB. Unsure if it was shipped or if I ever will receive it!

Chain guide!

The replacement part is easy to install and has very good adjustment options. Unfortunately, the noise from the chain is terrible.

Thank you so much for your feedback! We're thrilled to hear that you're happy with the installation and the adjustment options provided. Regarding the chain noise, we have a few suggestions that should help eliminate it.

First, we recommend checking for chain wear as a worn chain can contribute to noise, so it might be a good idea to check for any signs of exessive wear. Seccondly, cleaning the drivetrain thoroughly with a degreaser can help to elminate chain noise, then be sure to dry it properly before applying chain lubricant.

Lastly, please ensure that the idler is not positioned too close to the chainring. You can easily adjust this by sliding it back on the T-mount or rotating it down via the ISCG tabs.

We hope these steps resolve the issue! However, if the noise persists or if you need further assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to us at info@deviatecycles.com. We're always here to help!
